    Welcome


    Have you ever noticed how your finger becomes red, warm, swollen, and tender after a cut?


    That's inflammation.


    It isn't your body working against you.


    It's your body working for you.


    Your brain has a similar protection system.


    Most of the time, it works beautifully.


    But like every protection system, problems can occur when it stays activated longer than necessary.


    Understanding this balance is one of the most important steps toward understanding brain health.

    Your brain is one of the most protected organs in your body.


    Unlike your muscles or skin, it cannot afford frequent injury.


    For that reason, God designed remarkable protective systems that constantly watch over it.


    One of those systems is your brain's immune system.


    Specialized immune cells called microglia act like the brain's security team.


    They are constantly surveying the brain, looking for signs of infection, injury, or damaged cells.


    When needed, they respond quickly to help protect and repair brain tissue.


    Without microglia, your brain could not function normally.


    They are essential.


    The goal is not to eliminate inflammation.


    The goal is for inflammation to do its job—and then settle back down.

    Microglia make up approximately 10–15% of the cells in the brain.


    Think of them as gardeners.


    Every day they prune unnecessary connections, remove damaged cells, and help keep the brain healthy.


    Most of the time, they work quietly without you ever noticing.

    Neuroinflammation simply means inflammation involving the brain or nervous system.


    Like inflammation elsewhere in the body, it is often helpful in the short term.
